Banff has four distinct seasons. When traveling here, it’s important to note that the weather in the Canadian Rockies is variable due to the high elevation and rugged topography; mountain weather is unpredictable and can change rapidly.
It’s possible to get rain, snow, wind and sunshine on the same day. Since mountain ranges create their own local climates, conditions can vary from one location to the next.
The summer climate is pleasant with low humidity, warm temperatures and daylight hours stretching until 11 pm. Days are usually warm, but it can get cool at night. The months of April, and October to early November see weather ranging from summer to winter conditions.
Warming Chinook winds can bring spring-like conditions in winter. Winter temperatures dip below freezing, with frequent snowfalls. Located in the Chinook belt, the winter in Banff is milder in the rest of Northern Alberta. Temperatures can be as high as 30C/86F in the summer to as low as –30C/22F in the winter.
