Lake Louise is the most famous glacial lake in the Canadian Rockies and on of the most beautiful in the world. Lake Louise is named for Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, daughter of Queen Victoria. It is 1,730 metres or 5,680 feet above sea level.

The world famous Fairmon Chateau Lake Louise sits at the opposite end of the Lake from Mt. Victoria and Victoria Glacier. Melting glacier silt creates the striking tourquoise colour of the lake and keeps it at a frigid temperature year round! Swimming is impossible, but you can rent a canoe and paddle the lake, or simply enjoy the panoramic view of the lake. One of the must see attractions when you are visiting Calgary and Banff.
